The bass player from Fridge makes good. Adem Ilhan flies solo from the highly successful electronic group to create rich, pastoral songs that crackle in the subtlety of silence.
Using sparse acoustic guitars, simple percussion and minimal keyboards to create a warm, gather-'round-and-watch-the-fire-burn feel, Adem sees no need to stretch far from Music 101 (unlike Fridge) to achieve his desired result. He easily evokes a passionate response from the listener.
Homesongs, Adem's debut album, exhibits a bittersweet respect for life and death that could easily stray towards the clich but never does. While his solo career is just getting started, it would surprise very few to see Adem eclipse his "real band," Fridge, in popularity and creative substance. |
