MGMT WEBSITE FOR MGMT |
|||||||||||
| MGMT are a synth-y duo from Brooklyn that mange to sound both retro and future-o at the same time. Are they rock? Are they folk? Are they electro? Yeah, I guess so. The band's warbled eccentro-psych pop sound has been compared to The Flaming Lips and their frequent touring mates (and unabashed fans), Of Montreal. These guys also generate a whole slew of Ziggy Bowie comparisons, if for nothing else than the vocals. And on their song, "Weekend Wars," I hear a lot of Mick Jagger, too. So if you're going to borrow a singing style, it might as well be from two of the greatest of all time (unfortunately, they don't sound anything like Freddie Mercury on any of their songs). MGMT just signed to Columbia Records (!) and have most recently toured with another retro/future-o/weirdo duo, The Fiery Furnaces. |
